When I feel broody, all my attention actually focuses on having a baby growing inside me rather that actually being a parent.  Does this sound odd to anyone?

Sounds pretty normal to me.  None of us dream sweet dreams about having a stroppy, self-obsessed teenager.  Nature makes sure we want a baby.   The odd thing is that even when you've had one or two you can still want another and it's just another baby that you want!  And nature also makes sure that we fondly imagine that our sweet infants won't ever have runny noses or answer back or be anything other than perfect!

I  think you are perfectly normal, especially if you have no children already as you cannot imagine what being a parent will be like anyway. I also think that the urge to have a child is nothing to do with being a parent -  we don't get the urge to have our lives completely overtaken, be broke, exhausted, have no social-life, smell of sick and talk incessantly about nappies, it's much more instinctive than that. Personally I have no wish to have any more children, 2 are enough, I really don't want to be pregnant as that (for me) involves 8 months of vomiting and itching, but I would like to give birth again. If that could be arranged with neither a pregnancy or a resulting baby then I would be delighted.
It doesn't sound odd at all. I think feeling broody is a natural emotion or instinct and I have to say it feels wonderful to actually be pregnant and not have to feel it any more!
broody is about hormones, not reality!!
I have 4 and would still love more but can't. I hated being pregnant as I was either feeling violently sick, tired, farting or suffering from heartburn. I do know what you mean though, being pregnant is a very special time when you are treated well and made to feel important and for 9 months life is filled with wonder and anticipation of meeting this little person growing inside of you.Buying all the things he or she will need, decorating a nursery and dreaming about what he or she will be like. etc etc

Is that what you meant?

I also kind of know what you mean as while I'm 100% certain I don't want children, I would love to experience pregnancy and giving birth.  The answer is probably to be a surrogate but there are probably just too many risks in that.

hi misslideaway, i really know wot u mean, i have alot of experince with kids from birth to high school age and it can be tough but i enjoy. but i do know im not ready for this responsibility of my own at the moment.

Although the broodyness i feel is very over whelming, i really want to have a baby....doesnt make sense... i constantly think about it, check baby names, always touching my tummy...i dont get periods at all had them a few times, but i do constantly worry if i would ever be a mother, which makes the broodyness worse....

so no it doesnt sound odd to me...but it drives me insaine.
