Probably not, but at the moment I will settle for Mrs O's Marigolds and a quick poke with the cattle prod.
lol at mike....

good on ya tinks - maybe then the oncology/hospice route is your path in life.
When my mum was dying of cancer, i used to massage her feet daily...

and if you think of it, its one of the first bits of the body that people go for (apart from little hands) on a baby, and they love getting their little feet rubbed - the power of that human touch is tremendous - and very soothing!
And I though I was odd with a bowl of pebbles.
mike you're such a tart................

Well mark ive just emailed after jenna reminded me! Ive emailed to ask after the courses and the volounteering.

But seriously my goal is to specialise in cancer....my local hospice dont take on anyone with less than a years experience. Thats also why i loved community nursing because i got the time to go into folk who werent long for this earth and spend the time,.

..i always feel weird saying it but i really love palliative care and i would snap the hand off someone who offered me a job like that ...i really would!

Well mike i had foot massage ...cream and everyting hahahaha xxx

Ps mike your welcome to rub my tootsies anytime x
...says she with the green lips trying to make herself look 40 years younger!
Those foot massages sound so divine. I suffer from terrible cramps in my feet at bedtime and although they only last for a couple of moments they're absolutely agony! I might try gness' idea of the pebbles and the washing up bowl. :)
They're my St Paddy lips I'll have you know................

20SC...its a natural reaction your quite right...when i cant really help anyone much more and just keeping them comfy ive gave countless hand massages and when i was in a home a woman who wasnt so unwell was sitting one day feeling down....i offered her a "manicure" she was bowled over as she had never had one...i massaged her hands and painted her nails...clocked off for the weekend and came in on monday to find she has dropped dead suddenly! Im just glad sometimes i get chance to doo wee things like that. Never know the moment,

Thats defo my calling in life. Ever heard of maggies centre? I visited for a morning and DIDNT want to leave! Had a meditation sessions and massage and i just thought THIS is my ideal.....people came and scrapbooked or chatted or learned how to toe headscarves...thats where i want to be xxx
When I worked in town I used to have a monthly foot massage at the local Scholl centre.........bliss.
Craft - Padddy's was yesterday - i cant believe you've not had your lipstick kissed off yet! ;-)

tinks - nice one ! make that dream happen then - you are still young! I've not heard of maggie's centre but it sounds like a lovely place. I guess the secret of life is about doing a job that fills you with happiness and allows you to give a little bit of happiness to others before they leave this world. xxx
At the risk of adding to mike`s discomfort [or comfort], I think a Romany remedy for cramp was to rub the affected area with a rounded stone. So the pebbles may work bravejordy.
You mean at the Western General, tinks?

If you end up working there, you will have my never-ending respect and admiration...

Heres maggies ^^ ....mines was lanarkshire mark...i just didnt want to leave! People just pop in make themselves tea etc and join in loads of relaxation stuff!

I spoke with patients who said after their cancer operations or treatment was given they were just handed a prescription and out to the big bad world..... Then they found here xx
Well, Jo, if that's your calling then it's an honourable and respect-worthy thing! You will be one of a very few...

I hope so mark?! I get excited at the thought lol xxx
Good for you Tinks :) It was something very special for me to do and that I hope I can do again someday properly rather than bits and pieces.

It can make such a difference having people there even just to help out. One of our ladies had severely progressed MS and had little movement left in her body and great difficulty in speaking and I used to sit with her a lot and when the others were doing whatever craft or other diversional therapy we were doing that day I'd help her get involved.

Other things you could look into are charities such as Vitalise. I spent quite a bit of time volunteering with them on a residential basis and there are all sorts of possibilities there. Essentially it's for the severely disabled and their carers for a damn good holiday and some respite and we'd do all sorts. It's not palliative as such, although there are a lot of people with very serious and progressed conditions, including terminal such as Huntingtons, who go, but it's a wonderful thing to get involved with.

Not sure if they still do it but Christmas week used to be names drawn out of a hat for guests who would otherwise not have a great Christmas (alone or stuck in a home...) and they came free and we'd have one hell of a Christmas week - brilliant Christmas Day and a New Year's party on the Friday night (not that it ever was NYE) and all sorts of other great stuff - had some great Christmasses there.

There are all kinds of possibilities about if you look :)
