Fat jabs and liposuction

I have what I affectionately refer to as 'spare tyre' round my mid-rift (waist and tummy). It's not huge, but it does bother me. I am in my early 20's and remember this being around since I was 11 or 12. Thinking I would grow out of it and that it was puppy fat, I left it and do regular(ish) exercise.

I'm not overweight (size 12) and I am healthy but I really would like to do something about it now, having lived with it for a long time now. The question is what.

I've heard of fat/flab jabs that permanently breakdown fat cells. Do these really work and are there any risk associated with it. Also, does anyone have any idea of the cost?

The more intrusive procedure is liposuction - I am aware of all the risks with surgery but not sure of the cost element.

Can anyone help?

I don't know whether I can say anything very helpful, but... I'd advise before resorting to liposuction (I don't know the cost but I imagine it's not cheap), try some intensive exercises for abs and round waist, e.g. sit-ups, crunches - you know the sort of thing. From your post it doesn't sound like you're fat/overweight; it seems more like an issue of shape/tonedness... So, I think trying to build up some muscle there is good. Myself, I find a good exercise to lie on back, lift legs up around 45 degrees into the air, lower down slowly and repeat 50 times. This is quite good for muscles on lower belly if you do it properly. Personally I'd advise against liposuction. A few years ago I used to be anorexic, so I'm now always wary of this idea of going for 'perfect' slim body image. Because when I was skinny, in fact it didn't look good at all. So, please try to be happy with yourself! Good health is the best! So, I think exercise is the best for you, and good luck! :-)
