Hi friends, I wonder if anyone can give me any advice please how to pick myself up after a heavy cold and cough over Christmas/New Year which lasted 3 weeks. Its left me with no energy or motivation to do much so I am having to force myself to keep going! I hate feeling like this, I know I'm 64 but hopefully I normally don't match my age in what I can do, I'm such a busy person! Is there any non-prescription remedy which will perk me up a bit (no rude answers please, I know you lot!) Ta muchly :)

My dad swears taking a tonic always picks him up. Sorry, don't know what its called, but you can buy it from a chemist and it is mixed with water. I think it must be iron-based (its a liquid). Hope that helps and you soon feel better. I am also 64, and its not good when you feel under par is it?

Thats exactly the kind of thing I need Mumsie - many thanks! Any chance of asking your Dad please what its actually called? I have to be careful it doesn't interfere with blood pressure medication though, so maybe I could ask the pharmacist.
Tiramisu means "pick me up" I suggest having a slice for breakfast before starting the day proper.

To illustrate my point: Daniel Craig, when asked when he had realised he'd "made it" he responded that he realised it when he was standing on a balcony in Venice with a coffee and a massive slice of Tiramisu. As such, you can expect to be as lively as James Bond if you eat Tiramisu for breakfast.
I think perhaps mumsie means Sevens Seas Tonic. It is very good. get well soon. I know just how you feel :>(

Gosh thanks Ed <kneeling down at your feet!> An answer from the great man himself .......highly honoured, thats perked me up already! .......back to the point in question, pity I don't like Tiramisu - think I'll just opt for Daniel Craig instead (LOL :P) now HE could do me the power of good!!
Do you have a health food shop near where you live Ann?
I have always found the staff at Holland and Barrett very helpful.
Hope you feel better soon.

I'm all talk and wishful youthful thinking missprim - only joking - Hubby of 43 years wouldn't allow it ha ha !
Hi-me again. Have been trying to get hold of dad but he's not in. But have gone onto google and found it myself. Its called METATONE. Hope that is of some help.

I rang the pharmacist at Boots to enquire as I said I didn't want it to interfere with my BP medication (last thing I want is return of high BP!) so he said the Seven Seas Tonic is very good but contain a lot of salts which may not be quite suitable in my case (but didn't say a def No!) but suggested a Vitamin B complex tablet each day until I feel better, so Hubby despatched into town to get some! Thanks mumsie for finding that out - will certainly remember that brand if these Vit B don't help.... thanks everyone, just off for another snoo....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
