After a bypass op a few weeks ago my scar is still very prominent going down from under my throat to just under my left boob, I can't wear anything a bit low without wearing a scarf.
Has anyone still got the scar? does it fade & how long? I miss wearing my lovely locket and my chains. I know its vanity but thats me.

It'll take much longer than a few weeks I'm afraid. I suppose it varies from person to person. It'll be months at the very least.
It's probably very different to what you had done Jem, but I had some surgery done on my "boob" area (not cosmetic, I might add!) a few years ago, and the scars took a good year or so to fade.

Try Bio Oil. I never used it, but it's supposed to be good :-)

So hopefully by next summer it will have faded enough for me to wear lower tops? Great!

Jem, you hussy!!! :D Lol x
If the scar is a problem and you don't mind spending time improving the look of it, you should buy some bio oil or rescue oil and rub and dab on as often as you can. Only do this when the wound in completely healed not open. It will help with the discoloration of the scar tissue. If you spend enough time applying it everytime you have a minute the better the effect, put it next to the sofa and apply when your watching tv, every advert break apply a bit more etc
Jemisa.... will be about two years til the scar fades to silvery white... but it may never fade enough that it won't be noticeable... but be proud of it...its there so you are still here,.... and to be honest most people won't notice it anyway. The bio oil is worth trying though as the massage may make it smoother at least
sorry i haven't had that op, but my scar from my knee replacement over a year ago is still visible, and the one from june is still livid. The one from my hip op 6 years ago is still visible
Like Bednobs, I had my knee operated on - in April last year. The scar was starting to go white after 11 months (from the bottom up) when I had to have it operated on again. Back to square one. The scar from the original injury, 25 years ago, has been white for ages.

Years ago, I was sunbathing on a beach in Spain, and there was a girl there who had had open heart surgery. She didn't seem at all bothered about wearing a bikini and letting everyone see the scar. The only problem is that a suntan makes the scar look whiter as that bit doesn't tan.

Thankyou folks for all your advice I've taken it on board. Bio Oil? will I get that in 'Body Shop'? I have been using baby oil a nurse reccomended but if Bio is better I'll definately get some.
Rowan you're right I should wear it with pride really, they tell me after a few months I should feel like a new woman, well I'm now waiting for her to emerge, watch this space. (giggle)

I always thought vitamin E oil or tablets were good for scars etc - but Jemisa - you done good girl and a few scars aren't the worst thing in the world - I have many battle scars and whereas I don't necessarily wear them with pride - they are a part of me and they reflect my life so I just massage a little of the aforementioned oil into them occasionally. Also, imho - a few weeks after surgery is a bit soon to assess the scar problem!! -:)xx
My friend swears by Bio Oil for scars, never used it myself. You can get it in Boots and the like Jemisa.
I have the copy version of bio oil it's called 'rescue oil' small bottle in a small white box, orange coloured oil 40ml - will last years. I got it from poundland...for ...wait ...for ...it ....a pound :D some forums say it is the same as bio oil, some say they prefer the bio, some the rescue, try and see which is best for you. You can also put it in your bath and all sorts.
My Uncle had this operation 3 years ago, tje scar has faded to a silvery colour but still shows if he has open neck shirt on. You may find that just a necklace of the right length for your neckline will be enough. Also agree with bio oil, used it after my hysterectomy. Found it cheapest in Sainsbury at the time.
Hi Jem,

I'm really glad all went well for your bypass.......as others have said, it will take a bit longer than a few weeks to fade, but it will, sweetheart, in time for summer. :0)

Talking of which.......greatly appreciated if you could let me know where you'll be in the summer as i'm an expert on lower tops :0) x

( nature of the bear...............lol)
If you can't wear your lockets, etc, perhaps you could put them on a bracelet, like charms?

YogiB you made me smile I'll be in Southend, see ya there.
Thankyou to all you others for your reply's. A silver scar sounds trendy & I think I'll wear my locket & chains over it with pride & confidence now.

Night-night.

I've got a big scar on my leg from an op I had in June. It's still very visable (I think it always will be) but it's just starting to lose the deep purple colour it did have and is fading a bit. However, I'm not bothered by it and nobody else should be. It didn't stop me wearing skirts that showed it in the summer. It's just a scar, not a knife wielding maniac.
I really would avoid baby oil, it has perfume and other chemicals in it. It doesn't aid healing just keeps the skin soft and moist

Bio oil or Vit E capsules are best

Wear your scar with pride!
