I thought cranberry had too much acid in it? Did somebody once recommend baking soda or did I dream that too? Hope you feel better soon.

How long is a piece of string? With the correct treatment, it should settle within 3days.

Cranberry Juice is the "home treatment" of choice.
When I had it last I was crippled with pain for about 6 hoursish and had taken some of those cystitis sachets that you mix with water (bought from the chemist) hot water bottle on your tummy helps a bit but I would just say to get to the doctors for antibiotics because everything else is pretty useless in my experience!
I'm with sophie_1003 on this. Phone the GP asap and see if they will leave a prescription for you. You might even try NHS 24 or whoever it is in your area.
I went to Boots and bought a proprietary cure over the counter - can't remember what it was, 4 disgusting sachets, one every 3 hours. It certainly did the trick.
agree ^^^^ medication from the chemist does work, in the meantime, drink lots of fluids.
It didn't in my case anne :o( on the box it even says that it only relieves the symptoms not actually cures it but even that might be enough to ride it out so it clears up on it's own for some people; not for me though; have needed the antibiotics every time!
I think over the counter stuff only works if you catch it really early. You need to catch it way before it becomes 'horrendous'
I had recurrent bouts of it. It was 'cured' with antibiotics for about a week and then it would come back again. Doc sent me to see a specialist at the hospital to make sure there was no underlying cause - there wasn't. The specialist told me to eat natural yoghurt every day and drink two glasses of cranberry juice. I was also put on a course of antibiotics for about a month, I think. It eventually went away but I still eat 4 dessertspoons of natural yoghurt every day and of course the cranberry juice. I am absolutely terrified of it ever coming back. That and vertigo are not nice. If it did come back I would be straight up the docs for some antibiotics, it's the only way.
I guess if you have ever had a real bout of cystitis that renders you sat on the loo for hours you will understand that those sachets are crap. A real bout makes you feel very ill too, shaky etc....and those sachets make you feel even more sick! Thanks sophie_1003...that was the answer I was looking for. I don't think people realise what a true bout is like....it's debilitating. It did last about 6 hours and is slowly disappearing now.
Buy a bottle of Potassium Citrate mixture from the chemist -- eases the pain and rigors very quickly!
my pa and mrs kou had a really serious bout of this last week/week before - must be something in the water.

as said above, both ended up going to the docs for some prescribed medicine which cleared it up.
Citro soda
Depends if it is a bladder infection or honeymoonistis so to speak. citrosoda will cure the honeymoonitis but not a bladder infection. will ease the symptons tho
