To trap pockets of warm air close to your skin to keep you warm.

as D97x7 ^^ apparently very effective at doing so as well. not that I have ever worn a string vest I hasten to add.

Arent vests only worn by very old people these days? just curious.

And conversely, in hot weather allows the skin to breath, keeping people cool and stops clothes sticking due to sweat.

string vests are a marvel, they are as warm as wearing a jumper, cellular blankets work in a similar way.

asthetically there was a craze a few years back where men with muscles used to wear a type of string vest to show off
