What is healthier; Special K or Bran Flakes? Maybe even something better?

I am trying to lose a load of pounds, and have been told that breakfast is very importand to kick start the metabolism in the morning. Problem is a don't have much time in the morning to prepare anything fancy, so I think cereal is my only option. Any advice? thanks.

why not grab a cereal bar and yoghurt, breakfast on the go!
fruit and yogurt, quick, easy and healthy
Wholegrain porridge prepared the night before.

Are cereal bars good for you?
Just about to say that cereal bars are NOT a good idea!
Cereal bars are chock full of sugar - best avoided.

Porridge is best - far more filling than anything else.

Porridge sounds good, but i don't know if I can but it where I live. Is muesli similar?
Porridge oats .. put it in the bowl the night before, add milk & microwave .. minutes!! I'd say bran flakes would contain more goodness & would probably keep you fuller longer .. Special K are expensive & very light .. wouldn't keep you full for long.. though they do taste nicer. If you buy frozen mixed fruit you can take a small amount out of the freezer and leave in the fridge the night before & add it to whatever cereal you choose.
Any wholegrain cereal that is made without added salt and sugar is fine.... but also consider things like homemade Bran muffins lots of recipes around
I sometimes make a small batch and keep them in the freezer, grab one on my way out to work they are defrosted by the time I've made coffee and I have got to my desk
I have cornflakes with fresh fruit (usually blueberries) covered in pouring yoghurt............
Fresh fruit & yoghurt is really nice!!
Asda do wholegrain porridge but ours only seems to sell it in the winter.
mung - if you are serious about losing the weight then make time in the morning. All meals should be eaten sitting down rather than taken 'on the run'. You will find it is just a question of making a new routine that will help yourself the most. Good luck.
Them cheerios are a good bye
That made me laugh, weecalf.
boiled eggs and soldiers

cereals are full of sugar and will only make your blood sugar shoot through the roof, if you have to have cereal porridge or weetabix (plain) are probably a good bet
Is supermarket 'bran' full of sugar ? I love it with nuts on top and soya milk mmm
plain porrige oats - most other cereals (with a few exceptions) are choc full of sugar, salt, additives etc and are among the worst things you can eat,
Shredded Wheat claim to have nothing in them

Personally I soak porridge oats in water overnight and make it up with skimmed milk in the morning and throw in a few blueberries. It fills me up until lunchtime.
DIY muesli with porridge oats. You can then add what you like (fruit, nuts) and you know exactly what you are eating.
