however he's bashed his shoulder playing football and it is giving him grief. He is plastering on Voltarol but it's not doing him any good. He is pretty swollen around the area between shoulder and neck, no bruising yet. Should he ask for an x-ray?

Have you any co-codamol,if not you can buy them over the counter, thats probably what he will get from the doctor, the bruising may take some days to show...

We don't have any co-codomol poodicat only nurofen and aspirin. Can you buy it over the counter? There's a 24 hour supermarket ten mins away.
Yes you can

Okay will go get the invalid some. He's gone for a soak in a litre of radox! Thanks xoxo
Only if you have a 24 hour pharmacy toni,it wont be on the supermarket shelves
You their toni, when i said over the counter meant a chemist/pharmacy,and i know that some supermarkets have these,so sorry if you have had a wasted journey!
He can ask for an X-Ray, but the Dr will decide if he needs one.
Sounds like a soft tissue injury which will subside over the next 10days.
Ibuprofen 600mgms should do the trick.

It's okay poodicat, we don't have a 24hour pharmacy but I did buy my lunch for today so not a wasted journey! Thanks sqad, will get him some.
co-codamol is no longer available from the pharmacy poodi, it is now prescription only.
Have you got a minor injuries unit or walk-in centre, near you? Drag him along to that, you don't need an appointment.
Cazz we can still buy cocodamol OTC here, I bought some today in Boots.
ahh, well I was told in no uncertain terms that it wouldnt be available any longer when I bought some a few months back.
You can only buy it in limited quantities, true, I used to buy a dispensing pack of 100 soluble tablets, now they won't sell more than a box of 24 at at time. (If you were going to top yourself with cocodamol, you just go round 4 chemists instead and buy separately - and you'd be completely fizzed up with the soluble ones, you'd blow up anyway!)
My prescribed Co-codomol are 30/500 - Codeine/paracetemol
Off the shelf tablets are 8/500 - Codeine/paracetemol.

Thank you for your replies. I did drag him along to the docs today who referred him to the hospital. Turns out he has damaged the muscles in his neck, shoulder and back but nothing broken. Drama Queen ;n)
