I thought I fell asleep with my contact lenses in (gas permeable) because I don't remember taking them out, it's been 24 hours and my eyes feel fine is it possible that they may have dislodged and are floating around in my body, or could they have simply dried up and fallen out when I was asleep? I can't find them anywhere, so maybe my friend's dog has eaten them

They probably fell out while you were asleep....
There is no way they could get into your body.....if they could ,the NHS would have its emergency services strained by people like you who have 'lost' contact lenses...
I expect you've dislodged them by rubbing your eyes while you were asleep.

Expensive treat for the dog but not sure that is likely ,you may still find them.

I called NHS Direct, I had to wait an hour and a half for a nurse to call me back, she said there is a chance that they are in my head somewhere and that I need to see an optician very quickly and that if so I need to have them removed if they scan me and see them, I can't believe it, so what have my face disfigured for the sake of two tiny plastic objects , surely they will flush out eventually?
Seriously??

Are you sure the nurse wasn't having you on?

I mean are you in pain or anything?
