Hi,

I'm booked in to have a blood test to check out possible coeliac disease.

However, because I know that wheat affects me, I've been cutting it out quite a lot over the past month. Only since last Friday have a introduced wheat quite heavily back into my diet to try and help with the accuracy of the blood test on Thursday (this week). I've had an upset stomach as a result of introducing wheat again this week, but basically I'm wondering if 1 week of wheat in my diet is enough to make the tests reliable? Or should I postpone the blood test until I've got more gluten in my system? I hadn't cut out wheat completely before, and I've still had rye/oats etc.. but I want the results to be as useful as possible. I'm worried that if it's negative, it might be because I've only just started having a lot of gluten/wheat again.. Please let me know if you think 6 days of wheat/and other gluten will be enough! Thanks

It will be ok to have it? I'm assuming that's what you mean?

Thanks
Yes, that's what I mean. Is it a RAST blood test?

I think so - I just googled it and it sounded about right. It's the blood test at the hospital, but if that's the most common way of testing then it should be that.
the problem with thee tests is that they are not actually that reliable-if you cannot tolerate wheat and you know and feel it then avoid it-the test shouldnt need you to have eaten wheat to test you as they use triggers in the test to find that out. maybe eat limited amounts of wheat and stick to wholegrain-less likely to upset your stomach. You shouldnt have introduced it so heavily and so suddenly back in your diet-you've put your boidy into shock by doing that. If a vegetrarian suddenly decided to introduce a lots of meat heavily in their diet theyd have problems too! do it slowly-maybe one wholmeal slice of bread in the morning and gradually increase. if eating wheat on an empty stomach in the morning really affects you-dont eat it
