Does anyone know if the NHS provide a dental service for the elderly, where they will visit them at home and provide treatment?

Thanks

yes they do. not all treatment can be done in the home though, for saftey reasons, so if AT ALL possible for pt to get to the dentist they prefer that. They have "community dental clinics" for people who would otherwise have difficulty visiting a dentist, and as i said, as a last resort, a dentist can come out. To find out where the one is in your area you need to call the local Patient advice and Liaison service of your PCT (NOT your local hospital) it will either be on the pct website or in the phone book

Thanks Bednobs. My mother's top plate broke today and her regular dentist is up a steep flight of stairs. Unfortunately, where she lives, most surgeries are like that and she can no longer manage stairs.
the community dental clinic sounds like the best answer - they are accessible for people with disabilities etc. However, there may well be a different NHS dentist in the area with better access
