my dad was diagnosed with motor neurons in sept, and this could possibly be his last xmas. he still has the use of his arms and legs, the disease is just effecting his head and speech at the moment. usually i would buy him some beer/whisky, chocolates and smellies, he doesnt really have any hobbies other than betting occasionaly on the horses. i wanted to get him something special for xmas. but im at a loss as to what??? any one been in this situation, and any ideas??

Kitten, sorry to hear your news.

What do you think about getting all the (close) family members together, and all chipping in to get a family portrait done?

My mum loved it when I did that for her with my sis and bro...

or...how about getting all the close family together for a winter weekend break, in a little log cabin or something that he will remember and as you say unfortunatly he may not be with you too long so this may be his last holiday
Open him an online account with ladbrokes or something and put money in the account.
so sorry to hear your sad news kitten, what about a nice watch?...and then if the worst does happen you will have something to keep and treasure and know that your father wore something you brought him,i brought my dear, late father a watch 2 years ago, sadly he died in sept this year and he loved the watch i gave him and wore it with pride, now it is 1 of my most treasured possesions.hope thing works out ok for you.x.
When our closest male friend had his 70th birthday, my OH and I bought him a share in a racehorse. Like your dad, his only hobby is a little flutter on the horses. This gift has been a tremendous success and he has actually had a little money when his horse has won. Just put buying a share in a racehorse into your search engine and you can view the choices. We paid less than 100 but it has been worth much more than that from the pleasure it has given our friend.

I hope this suggestion helps.

my uncle passed on with m n disease several years ago, a digital photoframe with lots of family pics in would be nice
I agree with the suggestion of a family winter weekend away... what a beautiful memory and happy photos for the future for your kids of your dad...xx
family photo sounds great my thoughts are with you. When my mum hd motor neurone i wrote her a poem for her last mothers day. Gifts seemed so futile and i wanted to give her something special so perhaps you could write paint or make something for your dad

take care x
