What is a good thing to eat 5 hours before a workout in the gym? Something that would satisfy hunger but would'nt sit too heavily in your stomach. Want a change from bananas.

5 hours is too long. You should eat a normal meal at that time and a high carb snack an hour or so before exercise.

A small wholemeal chicken sandwich, for example.

1.5 - 2 hours before using the gym is fine. Have something light, like Protein and green vegetables. If you want some complex carbs too, then a small portion of brown rice or wholewheat pasta.

Lots of guys at the gym I work at will have a food a couple of hours beforehand and a Protein shake directly after their session.

Thanks for your replies. None of you have seen the size of my "normal" meals can't run and bike a few miles after one of them!!
a good dump beforehand maybe?
