I am due to see my doctor anyway so I will mention it then, but it is particularly painful today and I am just wondering if anyone might have an inkling of what is wrong. In the pub lunchtime, Gout was mentioned as a possiblilty, but it is only in this toe.

It isn't painful as such, only when pressure is felt against it, but that said, I am always "aware" of it, if you get my drift. The pain is akin to what you get when your fingers or toes are very cold - you know the toe or whatever is there but it just feels numb.

Any ideas anyone?

Don't think it sounds like gout 'cos I'm a gout sufferer and whilst it affects one joint, not only is it normally the big toe first but it feels hot, also the area appears red and shiny. I think the way I would describe gout is agonising and I don't get that immediate impression from your description. Maybe an infection or poor circulation to that toe. Good luck anyway with the docs, let us know how you get on.

Ta for the answer. I have seen the doctor but still don't know. Wouldn't you know it, the symptons went bu the time I saw him. I dinno if it was gout or not (part of the problem says it was, but another part no). Anyway, I applied ibuprofen gel and it went, so hopefully, end of problem.
