I have finally quit my 20 a day cigarette habit after 15 years of trying, however, since giving up I have a terrible tightness in my chest and am very wheezy. A lot of people say this is normal....is it? If so, how long should I expect this to continue?

Good effort Mak Yak, I quit this morning, well last night actually, but I only decided when I got up and thought "no, I'm not going to let these things rule my life anymore." Been ok so far, starting to feel a bit wobbly but psychologically I'm doing ok, looking forward to getting a sweat on at the gym later. My mum reckons it took 6 months for her lungs to clean themselves out and for her to stop coughing after she stopped but obviously if you exercise you'll feel the benefits quicker and it shouldn't take as long to clean them. Good luck!
A couple of weeks will see you ok. It's your lungs getting rid of the tarry gunge that was sticking to them, basically, your body is cleansing itself
Well done on kicking the weed. Keep up the good work.
as 4GS said really, i gave up about 3yrs ago and i was worried at the time about the wheeze but it soon shifted!

good luck giving up!
Yes, I had the wheeze and a nasty cough too. Cleared up after a few weeks.

I put the money I would have spent on cigarettes in a jar. Surprising how quickly the money mounts up.

Thanks for your help guys. Much appreciated. I must say, every day I am feeling better. It really is such an amazing release to finally put the cigs down. I'll keep on going anyway. Thanks.
