I belonged to one for two years. I liked the low impact, women only idea. They are very low key. No showers, daycare or locker rooms. Mine had two changing stalls. You work the machines placed in a circle. You do each machine for thirty seconds, then switch to a low impact bouncy board. for thirty seconds, then onto next machine, bouncy board, etc. Each gym has a differnt amount of machines, depending on their membership. This is not the place if you are looking to become muscular. It is good if you are starting to exercise again. It is fairly aerobic in nature. I stopped going for financial reasons. If your goal is weight loss. I would do this and weight watchers or some food plan. Overall, my experience was positive. I think it's pricey for what it is. I paid $40 per month. I believe there are other gyms that have more for that money, but I did not want that meatmarket type place.
Good Luck. Try it out, they usually have trial periods.
Hi annalou, I had my induction at Curves last Monday but haven't been able to go back since. Will try tonight. It cost 29 per month by direct debit or 35 if you pay cash/cheque. As EngTeach says it is low impact aerobic workout and I like that it is all shapes and sizes and positively no skimpy lycra clad types. I think the only problem where I am in Gosport is that it is limited opening times. 0900 - 1200 and 1600 - 1900. No weekends either. That may change if they can find staff to man it though.
