My husband has just been told he has a poloyp in his bowel and it has been sent off to see if it is benign or not. He was also told he will have to go back to the hospital for a colonoscome to see if he has anymore as he was told that there is most likely more than one. We have to wait for three weeks for the results. I was wondering if anyone else is in this situation or has been as I am worried sick. My husbands dad was only 52 when he died, of bowel cancer.

The majority of polyps are not cancerous and around half of people aged 60 have at least one.

Lots of information here:

A colonoscopy is a routine examination that should take no more than half an hour. It doesn't hurt - just a little discomfort from the air that is introduced into the bowel - and is nothing to worry about.

Please don't worry at this stage. A polyp in the bowel need be no more serious than the polyps people get in their noses. The good thing is that he is being properly investigated, and hopefully he will be given the all clear in three weeks.

Try and stay positive.
