I've been experiencing pain near my right shoulder blade and on top of my shoulder. I thought it may have been gallstones so I saw my gp and she examined me but does'nt think its gallstones. She ordered blood tests for liver, kidney, blood count and cholestral. Does anyone know what the liver and kidney tests are for? Im a bit worried. Thanks.

With gallstones you usually have pain inbetween your shoulder blade and under the right shoulder. The Dr. could be testing your liver and kidneys to see if you have gout.Urea is a by-product of protein metabolism and is formed in the liver then is filtered from the blood in the urine. If you get a build up of urea then you may get gout which is a type of arthritis and if the uric acid deposits in the joints it can be very painful. Most people have this vision of old men with gout in their toes but it can affect all ages and any joint.Hope this helps and your doc. gets to the bottom of it soon.
Thanks for your explanation moonshadow. I've got a clearer picture in mind now. I already have athritis in my rib and chest area's so maybe something to do with that? Btw, I had to change my username to ne2. I forgot my password and have had trouble retrieving it! Thanks again.
