I broke my Coccyx bone last Saturday. Extremely painful and difficult to get comfy. Has anyone broken theirs and do you have any suggestions on helping me get through this and come out sane the other side?.
I'm on very strong painkillers but really they do little for the pain. Many thanks in advance.

I fell down the stairs once and landed on my ample behind. I cracked my coccyx and it was agony. Bad news is that it was agony for a long time - weeks.

You can get seat pads that are round and have holes in them for sitting on. They look like loo seats.

It does steadily get better, but you will get very little sympathy - most people seem to think it is funny.

A couple of months after it healed up I tore my calf muscle - that was awful too. I could hear it tear, I thought that I had been shot. I was on crutches for a while.

Good luck.
ice - I suffered with temporary kind of arthritic pain of the ooccyx. Put this in to ask jeeves, i remember finding a wealth of information & diagrams ect.. It's very uncomfortable!
I had an operation there, it wont be as painful as what you are going through, but I found that lying on my side with a pillow under my waist and one netween my nkees helped relieve the pressure.
At school (25yrs ago) I stood up when the teacher entered the class and my chair fell to the side. My friend who I sat next to was ill and someone had taken her chair away. I sat down onto the heating pipe which ran along the floor behind. Such agony!!
To cut along story short, my Mum took me to a chiropractor, who did intensive massage on the area, evey week for months. It killed!! However, it did get better and I was able to carry on as normal.
I do notice though, if I feel under the weather, then my coccyx aches and I tend to change position alot in my chair as sitting on it for too long it starts to ache.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your answers.

I'm currently receiving treatment from a Chiropractor for an ongoing back problem, havent yet spoken to her about whats happened tho.

All suggestions will be carried out as I am now at the end of my tether.
Many thanks
Hi,

I fell on by butt while I was Ice Skating yesterday and I think I may have either bruised or cracked my coccyx too - I completely sypathise, it is unbelieveably painful. I too have taken painkillers but am also finding it really had to get comfortable (especially as I am only 2hrs in to an 8hr shift at work!!)

Sorry, I haven't got any suggestions, I just thought I would share my pain too!! - but I would be interested if anyone else has any though

A xXx
I broke mine due to a riding accident nearly 40 years ago. It is painful but it will get better. Keep moving and don't sit around too much. If the painkillers aren't working don't take them as you are just putting things into your body you don't need. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Thank you Ballymenaboy.
I do find walking and standing more comfortable. I am not one for sitting around either.
Its been 3 1/2 weeks now and although the pain is slightly reducing, it still is quite bad and Im still finding it uncomfortable.
I have also cut down on the painkillers as I really don't like taking to many.
Time is a great healer, be it mental or physical pain.
I must be a little more patient.
