Has anyone tried to cook boiled potatoes (for making mash) in the microwave and if so was it successful and does it cut down on cooking time, or is it a total no no? :-) Thankyou.

It takes just as long in the microwave.

Thanks Gef, I have just tried it for myself and although it was a success, like you say, it wasn't any quicker.
if you cut the tatties up really small it shouldn't take too long
get baking potatoes and bake them and then scoop out the inside and mash with milk and butter. Much quicker than peeling, chopping and boiling
forgot to say that you obviously bake them in the microwave otherwise it would take an eternity
I cook my vegetables in the microwave. I put the potatoes,& carrots, in the same bowl. It does take just as long, but I find it`s easier. James Martin the chef was saing on tv today that the potatoes taste better if they`re NOT cut up small for mashing. They absorb too much water the smaller they`re cut.
