A few days ago the top joint of my index finger hurt a bit, on the fleshy part. Then I noticed that there appeared to be a hole under the first layer of skin- like with a blister, but it is not raised or caused by any friction like a blister would be. Does anyone have any idea what this is, and what it is caused by?

Scarlett,

My best guess is it could be the start of a wart. These are wery common on fingers. They normally appear as slight lumps and develop into a white head. Personally Id wait a few days and see what happens as long as you are not in any pain.

Here is a reference that may help.
