This is (according to the blurb) a comic novel. Left me not even smiling. Tried to find a crit of it on line. Only found one, not much help. What have I missed?

No I haven't but years back I read my first and last Ian McEwan - First Love Last Rites. I found the stories so depressing and unpleasant that I've never wanted to read him since. Atonement was a great film but again how unbearably painful a story.

Thanks Prudie. Have read Saturday and Amsterdam. Enjoyed neither. Am ashamed to admit I have started Atonement at least 3 times and never managed to finish it. Perhaps I should buy it so I don't run out of time on my library ticket.
