I just had a cigar on the high street and for once i wasn't tutted at, told "Do you know a cigar's like 15 cigarettes" or told the smoke was in peoples and faces and it's clear why, all the handwringers are on here! To those complaining about smoke, do you wear and advise all family, friends and work colleagues to wear a facemask like the japanese to protect them from...

Fgt - 'why can't non smokers stay inside?'

good point, thereby, avoiding skin as well as lung cancer.
I don't think smoking should be banned out of doors when people are just standing around, but people who smoke whilst walking down a street should exercise more care. I have seen children's faces close to lighted cigarettes as smokers walk past them, and on occasion I have suffered burnt clothing when a smoker has walked past me completely oblivious as to what their lighted cigarette is brushing against. Similarly, some smokers throw their still lit cigarette ends into the street paying no attention to whether they might hit a passerby. I am not against smoking per se, just inconsiderate smoking.
Beer garden smokers should hang their heads in shame, as long as that doen't contravene the correct posture (upright stance) edict which is sure to follow soon.
Also a good point snags.
Perhaps there could be some sort of staggered use system. e.g five smokers at a time sharing one death stick between them.
A large percentage of these outdoor areas were created specifically for the smokers, so it's actually non-smokers now trying to take over smokers' areas.
Personally I'd rather ban it, but there comes a point when you have to accept that some people want to smoke, and little or nothing will stop them. Not sure that banning it outdoors will be worth it.
''e.g five smokers at a time sharing one death stick between them''

Make it two death sticks or they'll be back inside in seconds, leeching their foul and hideous aroma on to the rest of us.

(btw, Im a smoker).
have to agree with your statement craft!
I guessed you were snags.

Don't worry, it'll soon be winter and you will have the garden all to yourselves. ;)
''I guessed you were snags''

Was it the wheezing or the roll-up nicotine stain on my index finger (if you look closely you can see it... I'm flicking you the finger right now).
In my day beer gardens were created so that parents could take their children there and not inside the pub.

One day I will do a "Larry Hagman" and spray water onto the lighted cigarette of a smoker who's smoke I am inhaling and they are not!!!
And yes, I am the only remaining hardy soul in the winter who still sits outside in the rain, although it is never too cold here.
It was the eyes.
That's okay neti...............I'd have you for assault ;-)
I don’t smoke, but I do think smokers get a rough deal They’ve been booted out of every public indoor space – which is fair enough – and now people want to boot them out of outdoor spaces too.

To those complaining about smoke, do you wear and advise all family, friends and work colleagues to wear a facemask like the japanese to protect them from pollution? No? Well then you can't be worried that much can you!
I'm sick to death being told by the "Good living" mafia what we should and shouldn't do and how to live so if i want to walk around to wak around with a beer constantly glued to one had, a cigar in my mouth and choose to eat nothing but fast food then bloody let me without your constant warnings.
There is not much difference between these do gooders and the lot that constantly harrass you knocking on your door to spread their enlightenment or walking around with a sandwichboard wailing that the "End is nigh" and that we should repent in my opinion.
Kramer, relax and have a fag.
how many of you anti's were once smokers ?
OI! You can't say fag!
I don't have any issue with smokers being allowed to smoke outside, but I do object to the litter and stubs they leave lying on the ground whether a suitable receptacle is within arms reach or not.

If to stop this terrible habit (littering) means banishment from those areas, then so be it. I would include the main entrances to offices and public buildings in this, it really is quite lazy and disgusting.
