How long should it take for stitches to dissolve?

I was sterilised (keyhole) 3 and a half weeks ago. I was told the stitches were dissolvable but no one said how long they would be in for. They made the incision in the middle of my belly button (not underneath like I was previously told). So this has dragged the inside of it out a little and when its clamped by the stitches it looks a bloody mess to be honest! I'm just getting a bit concerned that it wont ever look like it did again! Is this normal?

Had mine 30 years ago but advice to me was if they had not gone in 10 days go to GP for removal, which I did.

Really! Well maybe as its been much longer I should do the same. I have tried to give them a little tug but nothing happens and I daren't pull any harder!
blimey tiggy, i bet you never thought you'd be in this position - i remember your posts before you had your son :)
Normally they should have disappeared within 3 weeks, but it is not unusual for them to still remain for a total of six weeks and if one or two are still showing and you have no pain or swelling, then you can "nip them out" yourself.

No big deal............except of course for the inconsiderate surgeon who "cobbles up" the wound.........this happens far too often .
Mine had gone in about a week.

Thanks guys.
Bednobs I know lol. I remember all too clearly how desperate I was to have him, now I'm even more desperate not to get pregnant ever again ha ha!
Anyway I think I will make an appointment as I cant bare to pull them out myself.
Sqad what do you mean exactly by 'cobbled up'? I think thats a good description of how my belly button looks now actually!
