Skin abrasion

My 75 year old wife has dropped a heavy object in the house on her shin bone,approx 1inch dia.of skin was peeled back.I folded the skin back in position,covered it in antiseptic cream then applied a dry dressing. Have I done the right thing?

dennis.....yes.....I can't think of anything that you gave missed out. That area has very thin skin and in a 75 year old may take time tome heal, so be patient.

Won't that flap of skin just dry up and fall off? Then there'll be a good little scab to pick in a week :)

My advice would be to consult a doctor or nurse. Theres a fear that a nasty ulcer could develop.... and very difficult to heal. Im a lot younger than your wife, but i speak from bitter experience of being off work for over three months with a graze that turned nasty. Still have the scars and tenderness many years later. Wont do any harm to get expert opinion.
