I am permanently tired because of the pain of arthritis and I am not allowed anti infammatory meds , which work, just pain killers, I know it's a big subject but was wondering if anyone has found a way of dealing with it, I am 64 , male, recently widowed and try to exercise every day now the weather is warmer , am also on sleeping pills as i am awake every 2 hours through the night. My doctor is stil investigating but without the anti-inflamms i just can't get going some days, any tips?
thanks, tfg

What sort of Arthritis? Osteo or Rheumatoid.?
In what part of your body?
Why are you not allowed anti-inflammatory drugs?
tfn You might want to try Amitriptyline they are good for pain and help You to sleep. They'r an antidepressant but have been found to help pain.

as i said, my doc is still investigating, am waiting to see a rheumatologist next, i have it in my hands, knees, hips, shoulders, and i know some doctors prescribe antidepressants but i wouldn't take them anyway, and i can't take anti-inflammatorys because i have a barratts oesophagus and may bleed internally without knowing it if i take the wrong sort of meds, i am just hoping to find something safe to use long term, i also take glucosamine but dont think it does much good
Why would you not take the antidepressant? They are prescribed for pain relief at a far lower dose than for depression relief. Th bloke who does our decorating takes them for his chronic bad back and says they have changed his life.
tfg......well.....in my opinion Nsaids rather than cause bleeding in Barrett's Oesophagitis, do indeed improve the condition.
Have a word with your GP.
tfg. I am in the same situation as you, with osteo arthritis all over the place and (?) RA. I am also the same age as you.

My last blood test didn't show RA, although ones before have. I have IBS which really does play up when I take Nsaids, so I take paracetamol and Nsaids only when I am in really bad pain. However, I do take antidepressants and they do help. Please don't dismiss them. There is no shame or stigma in taking antidepressants at all. They don't knock you out like sedatives - they just help you cope and really do aid pain relief.

i am getting more interested in antidepressats now you have explained more, will have a word with my doc next time, the other factor regarding the anti-inlamms is that my blood count goes up when i don't take them so while the doc says NO, i must obey, she is usually right
