I have looked everywhere on the internet to figure out to put my long layered hair into a messy bun. I have tried pulling it into a pony tail and wrapping the band around it tightly once and then pull the hair through the band halfway and tucking and clipping the extra hair in place. It still doesn't work. It just looks too messy like a big not or ratty mess in my hair. Can someone please help?

Try using one hair band just for tying your hair ina ponytail. Then twist the hair round til it naturally starts curling up into a bun. Secure it with another band. Now try pulling a few small bits out, gradually a few more till youve done as much as want....try not to pull too much out though as your hair will just get too loose in the hair band and fall out. Hold it in place with hairspray.

You may need to practice a few times to begin with.

If you still struggle, I know it isnt easy to do syles on your own hair, try asking your hairdresser how to do it.

Thanks Psychick, I just tried it and it looked alright. Once I practice some more I am sure it will look good.
After putting you hair in a pony tail, backcomb it to give it more volume and then put it in a bun after that
Personally i find that if you wind the bobble into your hair as though it was going to be a pont tail, then bunch up the rest of the hair and tie it round again.
