Hair colourants

I've recently (this weekend) changed my brand/shade of hair colourant. It's a slightly darker shade of red than I used to have, but it's a great colour, nice and even, no skin reaction.

However, even though I really rinsed it thoroughly when I applied it, there are still traces of colour in the lather when I rinse the shampoo out (I've shapooed it twice since the application, not including the 'double' shampoo that came with the colouring kit ). This didn't happen with the old brand.

Now, my hair is sort of neck/shoulder length. It said on the bottle (as most of them do) to use the whole bottle when you apply the stuff even of you've already covered all your hair. Do you really have to do this if you have short-ish hair? I did have some left in the bottle when I'd done, and I used it up because it said to, but I'm wondering whether I put on a little too much and if this is why it's still washing out.

I should add that this is, like my last brand, a permanent colourant.

I think it varies with the colourants you use. I used Superdrug in a red shade once, and the colour came out with nearly every wash. But when I used a well known brand, I didnt have the same problem.

You dont need to use the whole bottle, you can usually tell when your hair is covered enough.

Red colourants do tend to fade quickly too.

This is a well-known brand (l'Oreal Preference), and I'm used to the fade. Just one of those things, I think.

I think when I do my roots next, I'll stop when I've covered my hair and see what the effect is. I can always do it again if I don't like it, and if not, well, I only have to wait a few weeks to sort it out.
