It is best to drink water than sports drinks, unless you are training and need an energy boost.

Sports drinks can be great cures for hangovers, as your sugar levels drop when you consume alcohol. It helps bring up your sugar levels very fast.

They are also good for people who have insulin dependent diabetes, as it can bring there levels up fast.
Probably not for you, for you water I think would be far better. But the sports drinks are definitely better for the manufacturer and the shop you bought it in! :o)
According to an advice leaflet at my local gym, you should drink water for excercise sessions up to an hour and sports drinks for sessions more than an hour.
umm, also very very good for when you have a stomach bug/diarrhoea. The fluid is taken up very quickly by the body before it has a chance to be rejected and offers a little nutrition (trace elements) and sugar.
I use them for hangovers too.
When I did my training to become a firefighter the instructors always led us to beleive that sports drinks were a load of rubbish and led to dehydration and water was the only good drink to take on board. Not sure how true is it but I'm sure they knew what they were talking about.
If you look at tennis players at Wimblerdon where you cn see what they eat and drink. they always have water in ne bottle and another bottle with a sports drink - with elelctrolytes built in to re-energise and hydrate and this helps prevent cramps. The second bottle is normally a blue colour. they often take some of each. The ones sold in the shops I don't think will be on the same leelas what the professionals have and most of the shop bought ones contain aspartame and other sweetners
