audi a4 flat spot

hi guys i have a 1997 audi a4 1.8se and it has a slight flat spot when building up to speed between 1000-2000 revs then it goes away but also the car seems heavy on fuel i can switch off the ignition with the display saying 50 miles..start it back up a few hours later ..35 miles..are the flat spot related to this etc
