Probably Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth...
More likely The Bible.

This website has a list of Bestseller Books for the 1970s: http://www.caderbooks.com/best70.html

Among the titles you will see that the New English Bible was the best seller religious book in 1970. The Living Bible was no.1 in 1972 and 1973. Other best selling religious books were Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach in 1972 and 1973, I heard the owl call my name by Margaret Craven (1974), and Angels - God's secret agents by Billy Graham in 1975.

I was a wee bit surprised as I thought that Erik von Dniken's books were selling like hotcakes back in the 70s: Chariots of the Gods (1968), Gods from Outer Space (1970), the Gold of the Gods (1972), In Search of Ancient Gods (1973), Miracles of the Gods (1974), Van Dniken's Proof (1977), and Signs of the Gods (1979).

I would also agree with Clanad about Hal Lindsey's "The Late Great Planet Earth. The New York Times called it the no. 1 non-fiction bestseller of the decade.
