I presume you mean Narnia.  It was discovered accidentally when Lucy hid at the back of the wardrobe and found that it was cold and wet and spiky instead of wooden and hard.
On a slight tangent -  I live in Turkey and  now speak fluent Turkish.  As a child I never knew that Aslan (the name of the lion in the story) is the Turkish word for lion, and of course the mental association for me was so clear and strong that aslan was one of the first words I learnt here!
Lucy accidentally stumbled into it when she was hiding from one of her siblings in a game of hide-and-go-seek. The wardrobe was made from the wood that the magical rings were placed by.
