at least twelve years ago when I was younger... my mother bought me a book... and I'm pretty sure the title is 'The Road to T...' but I can't swear to it.. but it's about these selfish kids and one or two adults whose 'badness' so to speak manifests itself physically in burdens they have to bear until they get rid of them... along the journey's way they meet good people and bad people, character's with names like mercy and sorrow... people always in a hurry and lack patience... essentially people who encompass different aspects of the human persona... I don't remember many details, but I remember the end fairly well - they get to the gate (of heaven but not) and they have to give the three words - hope love and faith ( Ithink is the last one) the three children do, but the older man gives the wrong ones, because he still hasn't learned his lesson and so must travel on to the other gate on the other side... when they get inside a man takes their burdens from their backs and carries them on his own back.  At the end, they find out he is Jesus.  Please if anyone knows what book this is tell me!

The name of the book is "The Road to Terribithia"  (sorry, I can't spell it right, but I think that's close.)
