Harry Potter - brain rotting pap designed to subdue the reading masses to a quiescent state in order to pump sinister memes into our culture, memes which will result in the totoal corruption of a whole swathe of our most brilliant future citizens, thus bringing our economy to its knees by the year 2024? Or just not very good?

I'm not a particularly big fan myself. However, I do think that the whole Potter craze has meant that a lot of kids are now reading books who previously wouldn't have bothered. JK Rowling deserves some credit for that.
Yeah, I prefer Philip Pullman too.
JK isn't clever enough to have thought of something that convoluted. She's not a great writer, but was in the right place at the right time and her books are fun reads, and - as has been said - have encouraged a lot of kids to read.
its great that the harry potter books have got kids reading, but i am sick of adults going on about them, they should be reading ADULT fiction!
I am 30 years old and can honestly say I like the Hrry Potter series. It is escapism in a sense. I do also read a lot of adult fiction, modern authors including Tom Clancy, Frederick Forsythe, Terry Pratchett and older authors including HG Wells, John Wyndham (sp?) and Harper Lee. Yes it is written with kids in mind (and I do not have children) but it is still a nice easy read and I am looking forward to the sixth book. Have you actually read any of the series Luc, or are you just sick of adults having read something you haven't? Are adults also to be banned from childrens films? Incidentally, I was recommended to read the HP series by a solicitor friend. He was recommended by a barrister who read them to his children and enjoyed them.
The Chronicles of Narnia are chicldren's books, but adults still read them. And, I think that J.K. Rowling is a great writer. Even though she might have gotten some ideas from other books, but it's still making people read. I love the HP series. They're the best. And also, mr. I_hate_harry (could you make it anymore obvious??) no offense, but I could hardly read anything you were saying. Just thought I'd let you know.
first off all want to say that the childeren are more succesful then us,adults. They have a direct comedy mind so they don't act, they don't pretend to be seen as cleverer then they are ,they laugh when it is really funny. And lastly they choose HP, think it is clear. And a last word for the friend who is sick by the adult HP readers;we read it because it is really good, because we don't have to act to be seen cleverer then we are.
