Hello every body. I am doing a dissertation on "would students pay for a dissertation help service". I am breaking my research down to geographic locations. Right now I need the input from UK students. Would you (UK students) ever consider paying for a dissertation. If so how much. This is my final thesis hence it would be of great help to me if all of you help.
thanks in advance.

Isn't the whole point to do it yourself though?

I see it as a good pre-cursor to whether you are suitable for further study such as a masters which is more self driven academic study.

Do you mean helping with the essentials such as how to plan, research, set out, bibliograph sources properly etc... or with the subject matter itself?

There is such a variety though between subject such as law like mine, arts, sciences etc...

I wouldn't pay for a dissertation, I did my own. It's a pointless exercise if you don't do it yourself.

You're right about the doing it yourself part. But there is always an expert opinion required or sometimes stats that cannot be obtained. For example I once did a research of effect of birdflu on a very famous restaurant. Believe me getting solid stats was very hard. So let me rephrase my question. Would students PAY for help in their dissertation. According to my studies people in Asia would pay if the price is on the cheap side. I did a survey and got around 185 responses. Now i need the opinion of UK students.
I guess it depends on the limit you are expected to go to.

I, for one, would not have been able to afford to pay for it, though I still maintain DIY is the best option.

I think that, if a topic I chose was not possible to cover fully without information I did not have access to or would have to pay for then I would have chosen another topic.

When I was considering what topic to do mine on I took those kind of factors into account, something where there are a lot of sources available (covers a number of different legal areas) and it was feasible to go and speak to people implementing it practically and put my own slant on.
Since I was born in an era when further education was only for those 'who could afford it' and thereby missed out as parents didn't have the means.

I feel it only right that parents or students should pay for all their further education and it should not be a right at tax payers expense!

Students wouldn't be prepared to pay for a service unless they had confidence in the quality of that service. Building a solid reputation would seem to be difficult, if not impossible.

My own dissertation was on diophantine equations. I wonder just how many people there are in the country who have the mathematical and linguistic knowledge to be able to translate (and make sense of) the 18th century German texts which I had to study?

No, don't think it will fly.
A solution without the pre-requisite problem that needed solving in the first place.
no - i'm a cheapskate. and i know i'd do a better job...came away with a 1st (dissertation mark = 68%). i hated every minute of group working on my course and relinquishing control of my work. i like to know what i'm doing and am big enough to take the fall when i f*%$ up!!! other people p!ss me off (90% of them are lazy, make excuses and will do anything to pass the buck...human nature!) and i like to fly solo...

Thanks for the answers. They helped. What about a service that would help students in "choosing topics" for dissertations. The fee would be minimal. Most students have trouble finding topics i have noticed.
you need to be careful when providing work to others to use within their dissertation as this would fall within the plagiarism rules and use of other peoples research. provided they referenced you or who ever the data provider is properly there isn't a problem, but if they try and pass your research off as their own then they have illegally plagiarised your work.

i very much doubt anyone would be willing to pay for someone to help them find a topic - that's what personal supervisors are for, to help guide students topics. (I work for a uni by the way)
I think this question is actually a marketing exercise for a little commercial proposition. I don't for a second believe a university would condone it as a dissertation.

The university did condone it as a dissertation. And if it turns out to be a marketing exercise i dont think there is any harm in it. You see the main problem for a dissertation is getting the literature. That i think i can get. The rest is just applying statical tools. Thanks for the answers.
