Aesop was a Greek slave in pre-Christian times who told stories - known as fables -to illustrate the vagiaries of the human condition. I'm pretty sure the 'Tortoise And the Hare' story is one of his - its certainly along those lines. Such was his wisdom that Aesop's fables and quotations are still used today to show us all that there is little that is new in what we say, or do.
