Please someone answer this, I have looked everywhere for the answer and cant find it !!! Help us both!!! I remember the story and I think it was a lion who had a thorn in his paw and the little girl helped him but for the life of me I can not find any reference to it anywhere!!!
I've been on to the Rudyard Kipling Society about this, but as yet no answer. Fingers crossed we'll get a result.
No luck with the RKS. Checking elsewhere.

Thanks for the interest and help! I hope one of us comes up with this......
Finally had an answer from the Kipling Soc. This was what they said: 'I must say I havn't come across a confrontation between a lion or a tiger and a little girl in Kipling's stories. He did write over 250 short stories, although one might expect that the Jungle Book and the Second Jungle Book would be the place to look. There is no lion in the Jungle Book, but the tiger, Shere Khan, and he is vanquished by Mowgli and the buffalo herd "against which no tiger can hope to stand". Nor are there any lions in the Just So Stories.' Bit of a dead end, really. Sorry, Roma7.
