Who are the two women in Rubens' altar piece of the Reception on St Bavo into the Cloister in St Bavo's Cathedral, Ghent?
Some authorities seem to favour his sisters Begga and Gertrude; others say he was a bit of a raver and it's a wife and mistress.
No one on quizzes and puzzles seems to know the answer to this one.
HELP PLEASE.

Many thanks for that answer. Having looked at the picture again, I am sure you are right. There is a third (partial view) woman visible which could be the daughter Bavo left behind. Makes more sense to have two sisters and a daughter than a wife, mistress and whoever.
Problem solved.
