I used to go to the ballet a lot and have seen several different ones now. Swan Lake is one of my favourites though.
Good on you, Mary T ! My favourite is Giselle, the first ballet I ever saw, because , properly done, the key scene in the first act is so moving (and not, as my cynical friends said 'because it's the shortest classical ballet!') Ballet can be expensive to watch but provincial and touring ballets can be very good value, if only because they can perform without a live orchestra and vast , expensive sets.In London there are bargains to be had. 'Friends of Covent Garden' get priority bookings and may get some discounts. If you're young enough you should get proper discounts as a Young Friend.Haven't investigated recently (!) but when I was a lad, forty years ago, you could get a place in the 'slips' and 'upper slips' , right up in the gods, at Covent Garden, when the ticket was 8 shillings and sixpence and the discount was ten shillings (but I never had the gall to ask them to give me the difference of one shilling and sixpence for going!) Days long gone, but no doubt there are still 'cheap' seats available

Swan Lake is a lovely ballet, saw it by Birmingham Royal Ballet during their tour a few years ago. If you get chance you should see La Fille Mal Gardee. It is part of their repertiore and so very different from Swan Lake
Swan Lake is a beautiful ballet but my favourite is "Romeo and Juliet".
Go see it if you get the chance.
Wonderful!! I'm so pleased you've discovered, and enjoyed, ballet. People who don't go to the ballet and the opera are missing such a lot - but unfortunately, they don't realise it.
Live theatre is a unique and mystical experience, quite unlike anything on television or the cinema. I saw a stunning performance of "The long and the short and the tall" in Lancaster. Even the interval was gripping as the cast stayed on stage and "froze".
I recently saw The Nutcracker in Edinburgh and Swan Lake in Newcastle: simply captivating!
