I understand there was (is) a list of books that if you borrowed from a library alerted the FBI (or someone). Is this true and does anyone know which books are on the list?

I think you are confusing reality with screen fiction, in the Mel Gibson movie, Conspiracy Theory, the book 'Catcher In The Rye' was depicted as being a trigger set of by EPOS systems at till points etc for alerting the FBI or CIA to swarm into downtown somewhere like the SAS and break down people's doors. I have never neard that this happened.
I borrowed a book from our local library (How To Assemble A Small Nuclear Device) more detail in this, than on the Internet and returned it one month later, there were no police waiting and no one batted an eyelid.
