Kilns - basic information required

I would love to buy a smallish second hand kiln for firing ceramics. Does anyone know how much this would cost to fire? Which is best gas or electric? Is a second hand kiln likely to be reliable? Any other advice would be very welcome. Thanks in advance everyone.
