Could well be, but I can't help thinking Neville is going to be involved somehow. Probably totally wrong!
I did wonder this as Voldemort only picked objects he deemed worthy of the honour and he may well have thought harry was worthy of it. Although why try to kill him so many times, surely that would destroy that part of his soul.
I don't think harry can possibly be a horcrux as V tried to kill him as a baby and I don't reckon that a decomposing baby would be a good place to store your soul! Also, I get the impression that a horcrux is made after the murder (though the object is probably prepared in advance) as the soul is split by the act of murder. As he did not kill harry, his soul would not have split, and anyway he was as good as dead at that point when the curse rebounded. Besides, V was thinking that he was going to murder harry and his problem would be solved by that murder.
There has to be a clue somewhere in the books to tell us what the last Horcrux is. Is it something we're familiar with, but simply overlooking? I thought perhaps the Gryffindor sword, but that seems too obvious.
What do people think are the first six horcruxes then?
pingping, yes interesting article but the only arguement in it that I feel has any merit is the final theory about the horcrux spell already in motion and the ripped soul rebounding into Harry by accident. Although the writer is at pains to say that other theories are inconclusive and a matter on guesswork, he/she jumps to conclusions and declares them as fact, when in fact they are not. Still, what do any of us know until the 21st.
I am certain that the evil Professor Snape isn't on the side of evil. I do hope I've got his name right, as I've not read the Potter books in at least a year.

I originally thought that there was a spell to make the dead person look like Dumbledore, until I realised that as soon as they were dead they'd revert back to their normal body. Same with spells to make you look dead, someone would have spotted it.

I still think Diana Wynne Jones' 'Necromancy' series is better than this. Wittier, darker and more intricate plotting. I'm not sure if I'm glad she doesn't push her books this much, or if we should be pushing them more for her. Do you think publishers push writers to produce?
I've been reading Harry Potter fanfiction on phoenixsong.net - it's brilliant, check it out...

BUT!!

There's a warning. I've read so many very good stories, that all my Harry Potter facts are now mingled in my head. Can barely tell which ones are JK and which ones are the guys at PS.

Lol. Who else has started re-reading books 1-6 in preparation?
Immi, I've just finished reading the last one in preparation.
Immi - I've re-read all six in the last couple of months, but I think I might once again re-read the Half-Blood Prince just to get it all firmly fixed in my mind before the final book comes out. Btw did you see J K Rowling on Jonathon Ross last night?

Spudqueen, I missed that. What did she say?
yeh i missed it too Spud. What did she say?
I don't think Harry's a horcrux, but I agree with CupOfTea that Snape is probably going to come good. As it stands Harry probably isn't capable of actually killing Voldemort, but Snape could help him there. I'm sure Dumbledore knew he was going to kill him, as he'd been pushed into making the unbreakable vow, and agreed to sacrifice himself. I'm waiting to see if Aberforth, Dumbledore's brother, makes an appearance, as he's been mentioned several times in the last two books. I do think Harry will die at the end though, just to stop others from cashing in on the franchise.
hi all,
naomi, in answer to your question, 'is it something we are overlooking?' I was having a look at JKR's website today and the wizard of the month is Godric Griffindor, it says that he was the first owner of the sorting hat, this could possibly be a clue, because Dumbledore says in The Half Blood Prince 'that the ONLY known relic of Griffindor remains safe.' but with the sword surely that makes TWO known relics.
If you remember in THBP, when Tom Riddle went to see Dumbledore for the DADA job, it says that 'For a second, Harry was on the verge of shouting a pointless warning: he was sure that Voldemort's hand had twitched towardsnhis pocket and his wand; but then the moment had passed'
Supposing Voldemort had used his wand and made the sorting hat into a horcrux, it is very possible as the sorting hat is always in Dumbledores office.
Any thoughts anyone?
Aha, well spotted Dove. Now there's a thought. I can't remember the books ever telling us that the sorting hat originally belonged to Gryffindor, can you? Perhaps I missed it.
After reading all these posts, I am dashing home to start rereading The Half Blood Prince, as a refresher in preparation for The Deadly Hallows, only 11 more sleeps to go. CANT WAIT

11 more sleeps! That is so cute :) x
I dont believe there is anywhere in the books that says that Griffindor ever owned the hat, but over the past few months JKR has had all head of houses on as wizard of the month. Hmmmmmm me thinks it IS a last minute clue!!
