The Cambridge Theatre, I think.
I'm no expert on musicals...indeed, I hate the wretched things!..but I understand 'Les Miserables' opened at the Barbican Theatre on October 8th 1985 before moving to the Palace Theatre. Click http://www.colmwilkinson.net/lesmis.htm for more information. (Sorry to disagree, AB!)
Is the Cambridge theatre the one on Cambridge circus? If so I'm sure it was there in the late 70's.

and a link will take you to the official 'Les Misrables' website, specifically to the page therein which lists all the opening nights since the start on 17th September 1980 in Paris. The very next entry on a long list says it then opened on 8th October 1985 at the Barbican Theatre, London.

(If it didn't even open in Paris until 1980, AB, a late 70s opening in London is a non-starter, I'm afraid. I'm not going to hunt any further, but I don't know whether it ever went on at the Cambridge either.)

Ok I believe you. Memory not what it was.
