Someone sent me a card with a painting by Matthew Smith on the front. He's not in the Grove Dictionary of Art. Does anyone know anything about him?

Matthew Smith was born in Yorkshire, the son of a Nonconformist businessman who bitterly opposed his son's plans to pursue a career as an artist. From 1908 onwards Smith visited France often, and the inspiration that he found there profoundly influenced his work. I think that the V & A have some of his paintings which were mainly produced in the 1920-30's.
