I am posting this in B & S as well as in Arts & Literature, as I would really appreciate the views of the B & S ABers and some of you don't seem to go onto Arts & Literature.
So, Do we really need the new Royal Academy exhibition supporting artists such as Gerald Davis, whose caricature depicts a young girl with pompoms on her socks engaged in oral sex with an older man? This is classed as paedophilia - and the artist doesn't even deny that! The Royal Academy exhibitions are visited by adults and children alike. I have never shared or understood Charles Saatchi's taste in art (remember Tracey Emin's Soiled Bed?), but once again he baffles the mind with the so called artists he supports so readily. Do we really have to put up with paedophilia in our public art exhibitions? Does this not support and condone this type of behaviour? Does this kind of thing not belong in a private exhibition, if it must be shown at all? Your views please.

i agre with you but the powers that be must have passed it suitable for exhibition.
Why would anybody want to go to see such a vile display, and they call that art? an exhibition that is in a public building funded by the taxpayer. An exhibition that would need proof of age before being allowed to enter (well I hope they are going to stop children from viewing it anyway.

As an artist myself I find the whole thing repulsive, I like nudity in art but there are limits!!!

WM, neither has anyone else I know. Nobody knew Tracey Emin or Damian Hirst until Charles Saatchi brought them into the world's focus by supporting their work. Wish he'd do that for me ..... my paintings are far more pleasant!

Ratter, what do you do ... paint, sculpt, pottery??

I've just gone on the gallery web site to look at some of the works now being shown at the Royal Academy exhibition, and honestly, Gerald Davis' work can only be classed as paedophilia and pornografic. Hence I am not adding a link here. There is no way in which the child depicted can be seen as 18 yrs of age, so I don't think a disclaimer of this kind would hold water. Is there no way this kind of thing can be stopped?
Hi Carakeel, I work strictly with metal, I make all sorts of things ranging from full size musical instruments, obscure skeletal candle holders, runic symbols, yin yang tables, anything that comes to mind really, I would post my website but it would upset the Ed, and we don't want that!!
carakeel why dont you write to your local newspaper or your M P ? cant do any harm

I am just a little amateur artist down in Devon, so believe me ... nobody in London is going to listen to my feelings on this! But, I will write to the Royal Academy in London and tell them just how disgusted I am.

Not that I find his work appropriate, I have seen worse at the Saatchi gallery.
I cant really make my mind up about the young girl, she could be a late teenager.
Spot on ! anybody with even a ghost of a suspicion should be hunted down and killed horribly. Disgusting. Paediatricians. Scum of the earth.

You, though, are amongst the saved. For being so righteous. No stains there.

Hey, let's get out on the street and kill everybody.

It was done once before......... does anybody remember ?

great comments everyone, i wont visit any website where i think there may be something like this. i also hate the fact that on a few 'comedy' programmes they make comments about kids and 'uncles' and other lewd comments about the obvious and the audience laughs!!! what the hell is there to laugh about there!! i have a burning sickess in my stomach about anything connected to this subject. well done for highlighting on AB and also well done to those who have posted intelligent replies.
