Can anyone tell me what prescription drugs can prevent hair from taking a perm? My wife has just sat for 45 minutes and still ended up with totally straight hair.

Does your wifes hair normally perm OK? I had a perm once and still ended up with poker straight hair-my hair just wasn't having any of it and I was not on any prescription nor had I been.
I had been on prescription steriods for a number of years and had to sit in the salon for well over an hour, to even get a kink in my hair. That was the decision the stylist came up with. Stuck to having it done each week after that!!

Wouldn't it be easier to ask her what drugs she's on and then research those?

Can also be affected by your shampoo I understand. I remember one of my previous hairdressers mentioning that he wouldn't give perms to anyone who used panthene.

Thanks for your input - she's on steroids so guess that must be it. I'll buy her a hat instead (LOL) - thanks everyone
islandgirl, that's odd...I used pantene when I used to perm my hair and never had any problems. Did the salon owner say why?
I seem to recall that it was two in one products, ie. shampoo and conditioner together, that caused this problem due to the residue left on the hair. Back in the 80's hairdressers used to advise using seperate products for a few washes prior to the perm.
