Damon Runyon wrote the book in 1932 if thats any help
Which is easily found by googling

I did Barender but it doesn't mean the action took place then. It could have been any time in the twenties. The reason I'm trying to be as specific as possible is because I'm propmaker/supplier for an amateur stage production and I want to be as authentic as possible.
All I meant was that if you can find the book, it should be fairly easy to find info about the stage play too. If it's any help, Guys & Dolls is currently showing at the Piccadilly Theatre starring Nigel Harman (Dennis/Eastenders) and in the written resume (in Encore Tickets booklet) of the show it just says 'story of a group of smalltime gamblers and the ladies in their lives, set in the seedy clubs of New York City. Try looking up their website. Good luck with the show!

Thanks barender. I've since found that the action takes place in the "gangster era" which is recognised as between the late 20s and early 30s. That's close enough for me now. Meanwhile, back to the props!
Yeah - think 'Some Like it Hot'! Should give you some ideas on costumes.
