can i get my name and address off a joint loan?

When i was in my last relationship i signed as a garrentor on a loan. we then split and he no longer lives at this address. Is it possibe to get my name and address off this loan or am i stuffed. Could my ex get my name off it?

No - no financial institution will allow someone to be taken off either a joint agreement or one that they guarantored without someone (perferably of a higher standing) to take their place.


As an example, if your ex was to go out with someone else and get them to agree to guarantor the loan, you may be able to persuade the finance company to take you off but it is an outside chance.

Also, make sure that you tell the finance company that you have two seperate addresses now and that if he falls into arrears you are contacted (this is your right as a guarantor)
