What Do I Do About My Shift Next Saturday?

I tried to book next Saturday off to go to the rugby and it got declined so I've checked my rota and been giving an evening shift but don't plan on turning up. What do I do?

If it is an afternoon game and you don't have to travel, could you not do your evening shift? By the way, did you hear about the Warehouse operative job?

It starts 1 and shift starts 4. I didn't get it and one I turned down.

What you do is up to you. What you SHOULD do is do the job properly. You need to arrange your social life around your job. It doesn’t work the other way around because that means letting people down which ultimately reflects badly on you. Your choice.

You could ask someone to switch with you. How far ahead do you have to request a day off and did you meet the deadline?
You have had problems like this before. Work should come first

1 week before you need to request days off which I did or more. I haven't got contract so don't meet deadlines

We are not going to ratify your decision for you. Turn up, or don't turn up will probably translate as staying in work or losing your job. If you can afford not to have a job, then go see the rugby.

I personally think that you need to start making your own decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions.

If its a true zero hour contract then you should be able to say yes or no as soon as your asked to do a shift but in return they don't have to offer any shifts. You sure it's zero hours.

abbeyleigh, I have a small business and employ approximately 6 -7 young people depending on needs.
Most of the people I employ work hard and keep their promises. They honour their commitment to the job, and I appreciate that and respect them. I treat them well, and If they need time off and they ask me for it, they get it. I don't quibble with them, and I have never felt that they have taken advantage of that.
But i would not want you working for me. You are devious, unreliable, untrustworthy and show no commitment to your job.
You would not last five minutes.
Try to learn how to be reliable, trustworthy, and committed to the promises you have made regarding your job contract.
You will find that people will respect you more and you will be given better opportunities in life.
It's a lesson worth learning.

The amount of people that have no showed and still there. I booked it off 2 weeks and put in the request I want rugby off and when I spoke to the manager she said because the rugby is on and stadium is no where near us and it always quiet when it on anyway.

If you're working but it's short-staffed because folk haven't bothered to turn up, how does that make you feel?
